Good to know
Questions, answered
Is Bluebonnet Terrace assisted living?
No. We are independent living: residents manage their own daily care and medications. If you ever need extra help, licensed home health and private-duty agencies can visit you in your own cottage, and we'll help you find one.
Is there an entrance fee or buy-in?
No. You pay a monthly fee under a twelve-month residency agreement, then month to month. There's a one-time community fee at move-in, and we'll tell you the exact amount up front.
What does the monthly fee include?
Your home, two meals a day, utilities, Wi-Fi, housekeeping, maintenance, transportation, the pool and fitness programs, and the activity calendar. The care and services list shows every item.
Does Medicare or Medicaid pay for independent living?
No. Medicare and Medicaid don't cover rent or meals in independent living. Medicare may cover medical services you receive here, like visiting therapy, the same as it would anywhere else.
Can I bring my dog or cat?
Yes. Pets up to forty pounds are welcome, with a small pet deposit. We have a fenced dog run and plenty of shade.
Can I keep my car?
Of course. Every home has covered parking. Plenty of residents keep driving for years and use our van when they'd rather not deal with Main Street parking on a Saturday.
How old do you have to be?
At least one resident in each home must be 62 or older.
Do I have to drink wine to enjoy the Thursday social?
Not at all. About a third of the room drinks Mateo's peach lemonade or iced tea. It's really a party with a wine list.
What happens if my health changes?
Many residents add a home care agency for a few hours a week and stay right where they are. If you need more care than can be provided at home, we'll help you look at assisted living and nursing options in the area.
Can my family stay overnight?
Yes. We have two guest suites in the Terrace House that families can book by the night, and grandkids are welcome at the pool on weekends.
How far are doctors and the hospital?
The hospital and most clinics in Fredericksburg are about ten minutes away. Our van makes daily runs, and larger specialists are an hour away in San Antonio or Austin.
Can I paint or change my cottage?
Within reason, yes. Paint colors, shelves, ceiling fans and grab bars are all fine. Walt will help you plan bigger changes.
What if I want to travel for a month?
Go. We'll hold your mail, water your plants and keep an eye on the place. Ask about a meal credit for long trips.
Is there a waiting list?
Sometimes for two-bedroom cottages. Apartments are usually available within a month or two. A refundable deposit holds your spot on the list.
