Residential care · Bastrop, Texas

Fourteen residents, one record player and zero quiet Fridays.

A licensed small assisted living home three blocks off Main Street. Real help with the day, home cooking from Celia's kitchen and a living room that turns into a dance floor once a week.

Hello from Chestnut Street

Care that keeps the music playing.

Ray Guerrero spent twenty years as a respiratory therapist in Austin. Celia ran a café on Main Street. When Ray's father needed care in 2011 and every option felt either far away or too quiet, they bought the rambling ranch house on Chestnut Street and built the place they wanted for him.

Ray's dad brought his records. Other residents brought theirs. Now Friday afternoons mean Bob Wills, Patsy Cline and Freddy Fender on the turntable, and whoever can dance does. Whoever cannot taps along. The rest of the week is calmer, but not by much.

What our families say

Dad was a fiddle player in a dance hall band for thirty years. The first Friday, they put on Bob Wills and he stood up from his wheelchair to two-step with Yesenia.
Gina M.Daughter of a resident
Ray caught that Mom's oxygen was set wrong from her last hospital stay. He called the doctor and had it fixed that afternoon.
Kevin P.Son of a resident
My grandmother speaks mostly Spanish now. Here, everyone answers her in Spanish and she is the queen of lotería.
Marisa V.Granddaughter of a resident
Celia makes Mom's enchiladas the way Mom used to make them. She asked for the recipe on move-in day.
Rosa T.Daughter of a resident
I visit on my lunch break and it is never quiet. Somebody is always laughing, painting or arguing about dominoes.
Chris L.Son of a resident
They painted Dad's room Longhorn orange. He hasn't stopped bragging about it.
Amy W.Daughter of a resident
When we needed hospice, they never once made us feel like we had to leave. Dad stayed home with his records until the end.
Tom and Linda R.Son and daughter-in-law of a former resident
I was so worried Mom would be lonely. Instead she has a best friend, an art class and a boyfriend. I am still adjusting.

Our story

How a café owner and a therapist built a house full of music

Celia fed half of Bastrop from her café on Main Street. Ray spent his days helping people breathe at a hospital in Austin. When Ray's father, a retired dance-hall fiddler, needed daily care in 2011, the options felt far away and far too quiet.
