Good to know

Questions, answered

Is Sunnyside Commons assisted living?

No. We're independent living: residents manage their own care and medications. If you ever need help at home, licensed home health and private-duty agencies can visit you here, and we'll help you find one.

Who can live here?

At least one resident in each home needs to be 62 or older. Couples, singles, siblings and friends sharing a two-bedroom are all welcome.

Is there a buy-in or entrance fee?

No. You sign a twelve-month lease and pay monthly rent. After the first year it goes month to month.

What does the rent include?

Utilities, Wi-Fi, cable, lunch every day, morning coffee, housekeeping every other week, maintenance, transportation and every club and class on the calendar. Our care and services page lists it all.

Does Medicare or Medicaid pay for this?

No. Medicare and Medicaid don't cover rent in independent living. Medicare still covers medical care you receive here, just as it would anywhere else.

Can I bring my pets?

Yes. Up to two pets per home, with a fenced dog park and a pet-washing station by the side door.

Can I keep my car?

Absolutely. Covered parking is included. Lots of residents drive, and lots of residents use the van so they don't have to deal with parking at the hospital.

Do I have to join activities?

Not at all. Some residents are at everything; some come to coffee and go home. Your apartment is yours and the calendar is optional.

What if my health changes?

Many residents add a few hours of home care and stay put. If you need more care than can be provided at home, we'll help you look at assisted living and nursing options nearby.

Can family stay overnight?

Yes. We have a furnished guest apartment families can book by the night, and grandkids are welcome at the pool on weekends with a resident.

Can I decorate or paint?

Yes. Hang pictures, paint an accent wall, put up shelves. Marcus will help with anything that needs a drill.

How do we get to doctors and hospitals?

Our van runs Monday through Saturday to most clinics in Broken Arrow and South Tulsa. Bigger hospitals in Tulsa are about twenty minutes away.

Is there a waiting list?

Sometimes for cottages. Apartments are usually available within a month or two. A refundable deposit holds your spot.

What happens if I travel for a while?

Go see the grandkids. We'll grab your mail, water the plants and keep an eye on things.

How do we get started?

Call or text Tamika, book a tour online or come to any Saturday open house. Lunch is on us.
