Good to know

Questions families ask

What does the monthly fee include?

Your suite, three meals a day and afternoon tea, housekeeping, laundry, utilities, transportation, activities and the personal care in your plan. A written estimate lists everything before you decide.

Is there an entrance fee?

No. Residency is month to month after a one-time community fee.

Does Medicare pay for assisted living?

No. Medicare does not cover rent or personal care in assisted living, though it can cover physician visits, therapy and some supplies. Most residents pay privately, sometimes with long-term care insurance or VA benefits.

Do you accept Medicaid?

Wexford House is private pay. Texas does have Medicaid programs that help with some assisted living costs for people who qualify, and we are glad to suggest communities that participate.

How is the care plan decided?

Our wellness nurse meets with the resident and family before move-in, writes the plan with you and reviews it every quarter or whenever needs change.

Is a nurse there at night?

Caregivers are awake all night, and a nurse is on call and comes to the house when needed.

Can I bring my own furniture?

Please do. Our facilities director will help plan the suite and hang your art before you arrive.

Can couples live together?

Yes, in the Oak and Garden suites, each with their own care plan.

Can I keep my own doctor?

Yes. Many residents do. Our nurse coordinates with your physician, and a visiting concierge practice is available if you prefer.

What happens if more care is needed?

Many residents remain with more support. If someone needs skilled nursing or secure memory care, we help the family find the right next home.

Are pets welcome?

Small dogs and cats are welcome, with a little help available for walks.

Can family stay overnight?

Yes, in our guest suite, by reservation.

Do you offer short stays?

Yes. The recovery suite is available for stays of a week or more after surgery or illness, and for respite.

Can family join meals?

Always. The private dining room seats twelve for celebrations.

Do you help veterans?

The VA Aid and Attendance pension can help eligible veterans and surviving spouses pay for assisted living. Our liaison can connect you with a veterans service officer.
