Websites for nursing homes and senior living in Wichita

Wichita is the center of a three-county aging services area, and families search from Derby, Andover and Newton as much as from the city itself.

Wichita is the county seat of Sedgwick County. The Census Bureau estimated about 401,000 people in the city and about 538,000 in Sedgwick County in 2025. About 15.7% of Wichita residents were 65 or older in the 2020-2024 American Community Survey, and about 17.5% of Sedgwick County residents were 65 or older in the Vintage 2025 estimates (U.S. Census Bureau QuickFacts). The suburbs and outlying towns run older than the city, so a provider on the edge of town is often serving families who live outside Wichita proper.

Hospital discharges drive a lot of short-stay and home health referrals here. The main acute care hospitals are Wesley Medical Center (part of Wesley Healthcare) and Ascension Via Christi St. Francis and Ascension Via Christi St. Joseph. Veterans are served by the Robert J. Dole VA Medical Center on East Kellogg. If you take rehab patients, say which hospitals you regularly receive from and how fast you can admit, because discharge planners and families both read that page.

One change to watch: Ascension Via Christi bought the closed Rock Regional Hospital in Derby, about 10 miles south of Wichita, renamed it Ascension Via Christi St. Peter, and expects to open it in summer 2027, according to the Catholic Health Association. Providers in Derby, Mulvane and south Sedgwick County should plan to update their location and referral copy when it opens.

Older adults in Sedgwick, Butler and Harvey counties are served by the Central Plains Area Agency on Aging, which Sedgwick County runs. That three-county footprint is a good guide to how families search: Butler County towns like Andover, Augusta and El Dorado, and Harvey County towns like Newton, all sit inside the same local aging network. Name the towns you actually serve on your website instead of writing "the greater Wichita area."

About 18.4% of Wichita residents age 5 and older spoke a language other than English at home in 2020-2024 (QuickFacts). If your staff can serve Spanish or Vietnamese speakers, for example, say so on your admissions page and make sure the phone line can handle it.
